More jobs are created in Jacksonville. Overall, 3.3 percent more Jacksonville residents have jobs this time this year compared to last year.
The Department of Economic Opportunity posted Florida’s unemployment rate for September at 6.1 percent, down from 6.3 percent in August.
While looking at the department’s numbers doesn’t paint the full picture — they are not seasonally adjusted — they do provide insight into yearly trends.
On the First Coast, unemployment was at 5.9 percent in September 2014, 0.8 percentage point lower than the year-ago rate of 6.7 percent and 0.2 percentage point lower than the state rate of 6.1 percent.
The Jacksonville metro area ranked second in over-the-year job gains in professional and business services and leisure and hospitality, behind Orlando: Since September of 2013, professional and business services has risen 9.2 percent and leisure and hospitality jobs are up 7.4 percent.
